Simone Biles withdrew from Monday’s gymnastics floor exercise final, an event for which she won gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The only event left on Biles’s Olympic calendar is the final of the balance beam Tuesday.
Considered the greatest gymnast of all time, Biles shocked the world last week when she withdrew from the overall final of the women’s gymnastics team, citing mental health concerns. She followed him out of the all-round singles finals, and then the jump and uneven bars finals as well.
In the wake of his first withdrawal last Tuesday, Biles said he was not in the right state of mind to compete. “I felt it would be a little better to take a back seat, work on my mindfulness and I knew the girls would do a great job and I didn’t want to risk the team with a medal,” Biles told a news conference.
“After further medical evaluation, Simone Biles has withdrawn from the individual finals competition,” reads a statement from USA Gymnastics following her elimination from the individual finals. “We wholeheartedly support Simone’s decision and applaud her courage in prioritizing her well-being. Her courage shows, once again, why she is a role model for so many.”
In a subsequent statement regarding Biles’s withdrawal from the floor exercise finals, USA Gymnastics said that Biles “will make a decision on the beam later this week.”
Biles entered thewith a serious drive. He currently has more medals than any other gymnastics competitor, of which 25 to 19 are gold. Biles is one of six women the United States sent to the Olympics to compete in gymnastics, alongside Jordan Chiles, Sunisa Lee, Grace McCallum, Jade Carey and MyKayla Skinner.
Remaining events of Simone Biles
Olympic gymnastics comprises four events: jump, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise. After her qualifying round, Biles was ready to compete in all four. In total, Biles was expected to win up to six gold medals. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, she won four gold medals – vault, floor, individual and team – and performed with such distinction that she was chosen as the United States flag bearer at the closing ceremonies.
In a move that earned him massive support and praise, amid some criticism, Biles withdrew from all events except, at the time of writing, Tuesday’s balance beam final.

The best gymnast of all time
Biles has become a significant force for herself in recent years: She is often called the greatest gymnast of all time and, after only a few Olympics, is considered a top-tier Olympian.
Her accolades go beyond medals and include being named ESPN Most Dominant Athlete of the Year (2018), ESPN Woman of the Year (2016) and AP Female Athlete of the Year (2019).
