The 2021 Olympics will be the most covered Summer Games in Olympic broadcast history, but cable cutters need not worry.

NBC and its affiliates are ready to cover the event in the United States. The mammoth task of streaming live and tape-delayed content will fall primarily to six stations: NBC USA, NBCSN, CNBC, Olympic Channel and Golf Channel, and NBC’s streaming platform Peacock.

The good news for cable cutters is that these networks excel at some of the most popular transmission options out there. As such, there will be many ways to stream the games after their one-year postponement.

Below is a full breakdown of the live streaming options for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

Live broadcasts of the 2021 Olympic Games

The Olympics are a huge broadcast event and they are too big for a single station to broadcast on its own.

As such, NBC and its affiliates will have coverage of the events and plan to broadcast 7,000 hours of action in the United States. NBC will show many of the big primetime events, both live and on tape delay due to the 13-hour time difference in Tokyo, while other channels including US, NBCSN, CNBC, Olympic Channel and Golf Channel will help you.

Additionally, NBC’s streaming service Peacock will provide coverage of select live events, including athletics, gymnastics and basketball. The service, which is free with ads, will also provide more content from the Olympics, including curated playlists, highlights, and full event replays from the 2021 Tokyo Games.

A subscription to Peacock Premium (no ads) costs $ 4.99 / month.

There are many options that cable cutters can use to broadcast the Olympics. In particular, they can watch selected events live and broadcasts for free on Peacock.

Additionally, streaming services like fuboTV, Hulu Plus Live TV, and YouTube TV feature the NBC family of networks and offer free trials.

What’s in Peacock?

Peacock’s coverage of the Olympics includes exclusive features, interviews, original content, and study shows that will not be shown on other platforms that simply broadcast NBC channels.

Tokyo Gold, a post-game style show, reviews the competition from the day before by showing repeat coverage. On Her Turf – “a show focused on female athletes” – runs from 7-7: 30 pm ET and leads to Tokyo Tonight, a highlight-focused show (think ESPN’s SportsCenter for the Olympics).

Here’s Peacock’s daily lineup:

  • Tokyo Live: 6-11 am ET
  • Tokyo Gold: 11 am-noon ET
  • Tokyo Gold (curb): noon to 7 p.m. M. ET
