Another tragedy strikes Pakistani sports on the holy day of Eid-Ul-Adha when billiards star Majid Ali commits suicide in his hometown of Samundri, Faisalabad. He was 28 years old.
According to Pakistani media reports, billiards star Majid Ali, an Asian under-21 silver medalist, killed himself on Thursday June 29 using a wood-cutting machine. According to his brother Umer, Majid has suffered from depression since his teens.
Alamgir Sheikh, Chairman of Pakistan Billiards and Snooker, said his tragic death had saddened the entire sports community. He reportedly had no financial problems. The true cause of his depression is still unknown.
For the Pakistani snooker community already mourning the passing of Mohammad Bilal due to cardiac arrest last month, this is the second tragic news in a month.
Recently, Pakistan has been seen making great achievements in snooker at the international level. Among others, players like Muhammad Yousuf and Muhammad Asif helped win World and Asian Championship titles, with some players even graduating to the professional circuit.
