Pittsburgh Penguins games will never sound the same again.
By the officer NHL website, Pittsburgh Hall of Fame play-by-play radio host Mike Lange retires after spending 46 years as the voice of the Penguins. Lange will continue to make sporadic appearances on Penguins Radio Network after missing most of the 2020-21 season due to opt out due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“There are so many people to thank along the way,” Lange, who became widely known for his colorful and unique sayings, said in a prepared statement. “From the great staff in the arena all these years, the property, including the smaller investors who took a chance on this franchise, the players who make it happen, and the management and all the staff members that are so memorable to me. I am so grateful for the opportunity to meet you and work with you over the years. And for the fans: what a journey we had together. So many contributing to the broadcasts and listening to night after night. It always made me ‘smile like a butcher dog. ‘. God bless you. ”
