according to the Council for the Defense of Natural Resources. So why aren’t hot dog makers and hot dog bread bakers doing their part?is becoming an increasingly well-known problem, as American consumers waste almost 40% of the food they buy,
Hot dogs, Heinz Ketchup Canada says in a new video, often come in packs of 10, while hot dog buns typically come in groups of eight. (I could discuss their numbers. I don’t always see groups of 10/8, but there’s no denying that they never seem to match.)
Why can’t Big Bun and Big Dog join in on this?
Steve Martin’s character in the 1991 film Father of the Bride made this point 30 years ago, with different numbers.
“I want to buy eight hot dogs and eight hot dog buns to go with them,” Martin’s character said as he ripped buns out of a package at the grocery store. “But nobody sells eight hot dog buns. They only sell 12 hot dog buns. So I end up paying for four buns that I don’t need. So I’m ditching the superfluous buns.”
Now, Heinz Ketchup Canada is getting involved in this decades-long struggle.
In addition to the video, the company posted on the online petition urging “Big Bun” and “Big Wiener” (!) to get together and put 10 hot dogs in a package and 10 buns in a package.
The online petition hasn’t really let the dogs out, yet. As of this writing Tuesday afternoon, a little over 900 people had signed up. But his comments showed that the problem has plagued many hot dog eaters for many years.
“100% for this,” wrote one of the petition’s signers. “It’s been very annoying to run out of buns over the years. Then turning to slices of bread in a pinch. It’s not the same.”
Another said, “I agree, it’s still one of the stupidest things in the world! At least give it more buns than sausage. Roasted buns with a little garlic butter are great for garlic bread!”
Heinz, of course, doesn’t make hot dogs or buns, but ketchup, a condiment that many people use on hot dogs and many think that you should never go near a hot dog. In fact, the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council just came out saying “only children should eat their hot dogs with tomato sauce. ”
Maybe there is a new request on the grill?
