Yoruba actress Sidikat Odunkanwi, widely known as Iyabo Oko, sadly passed away after a long battle with illness.
Her daughter, Bisi Aisha, shared the heartbreaking news on her Instagram posts earlier today, accompanied by the captions: “You are fine with your soul, Mom. RIP” and “Wurami, rest in peace”.
Iyabo Oko had been dealing with the effects of an ischemic stroke, a condition he had been fighting valiantly for some time, as revealed by his daughter Olamide last year. Consequently, the actress had to take a step back in her acting career.

Interestingly, this is not the first instance in which the actress has been wrongly reported as deceased. In January 2022, she was mistakenly pronounced dead after going into cardiac arrest, but surprisingly, she recovered her pulse and showed signs of life after three hours. The revelation of her return surprised many after her daughter’s earlier announcement of her passing in 2022.
Hailing from Iwo, Osun State, Iyabo Oko embarked on her acting journey in 1973 with the Eda Onileola theater company. She gained wide fame through her role in the Oga Bello-produced film, Oko, which earned her the nickname ‘Iyabo Oko’.
The veteran actress quickly became famous for her notable performances in Yoruba films like Idunnu Okan and Okobo Dimeji.
Iyabo Oko is survived by his children and grandchildren, leaving a lasting legacy in the Yoruba film industry.
