Porsche reportedly has 3 special 911s inspired by classics on the way

Remember all the excitement surrounding the launch of the Porsche 911 R. special edition five years ago? Well, get ready for another round as Porsche has new specials coming up for its current 911 generation 992.

We have already identified prototypes for a car that looks like a modern 911 Sport Classic, the clear homage is the prominent duck tail spoiler. The unique rear spoiler was first used on the legendary 1973 Carrera RS 2.7 homologation and was also used for 911 Sport Classic from 2010.

Motor tendency reported last week that the Sport Classic is just one of at least three special 911s in the works. The others would be a modern 911 ST and a 50th anniversary version of the aforementioned Carrera RS 2.7. That anniversary is a little over 12 months away now.

According to the magazine, the Sport Classic will combine a manual transmission, rear-wheel drive and the 640hp 3.8-liter flat-6 biturbo of the current 911 Turbo S. Such a combination would be an appropriate finish. before the turbo is electrified.

As for the ST, it is said to be an essential model for track use, just like the original from the ’70s. The engine choice here is said to be the 4.0-liter flat-6 of the current 911 GT3, which could spit out more than the stock 502hp and coupled with some retro cues elsewhere on the car.

And as with the 50th anniversary model, this too will have to be a racing car, as it celebrates the Carrera RS 2.7. Motor tendency expects it to be based on the current Carrera GTS although we could also imagine it to be based on the upcoming 911 GT3 RS due out next year, and it could be argued that a car is the spiritual successor to the original Carrera RS 2.7.
