Youngest child of Queen Elizabeth, Prince edward, “Angry” that his older brother Prince Charles may deny him the title of Duke of Edinburgh when he ascends the throne, the source exclusively reports In touch.
“To be honest, Prince Charles did not want to give Prince Edward [the title] When he became king, it caused a stir in the palace, ”the source claims.
The coveted title of Duke of Edinburgh was awarded on the late Prince Philip in 1947, just a day before his wedding to the queen. Prince Philip died in April 2021. Charles, 72, inherited the title after his father’s death.
In 1999, before 57-year-old Edward, married Sophie Rhys-Jones at St George’s Chapel, it was announced that he would follow his father as the next Duke of Edinburgh.
“Prince Edward is firmly convinced that Prince Charles has no right to take away his title,” continues the insider.
“What made Prince Edward even more upset was that his beloved father, Prince Philip, promised him shortly before his death that he would inherit the title,” the source claims. “This is what Prince Philip wanted, but now that he is no longer around to voice his opinion or intervene, Prince Charles is taking on the responsibility of potentially denying him this privilege.”
The source adds, “To say that Prince Edward is shocked is to say nothing,” before stating that Edward “feels like a frozen Charles.”
A spokesman for Kensington Palace did not immediately respond to In touchrequest for comment.
The Earl of Wessex is one of the most humble members of the royal family.
Royal biographer Matthew Dennison wrote in his book Queenthat Edward is his mother’s favorite child, and not Prince Andrew as it was once thought.
“Prince Edward, who looks a little wet and a little annoying for all of us, has always been his parents.” [favorite], – wrote the author. “This became apparent in 1987 when 22-year-old Edward retired from the Royal Marines after completing only a third of his 12-month basic training.”
