Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 888 Plus 5G processor clocked at 3 GHz

Qualcomm Technologies unveiled the new Snapdragon 888+ 5G mobile platform on Monday, June 28, a successor to the flagship Snapdragon 888 chipset. The announcement was made at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2021 virtual event. According to Qualcomm, these platforms power more than 130 designs announced or in development.

Snapdragon 888+ features AI-enhanced gameplay, streaming, photography, and more.

The new Snapdragon 888+ 5G The mobile platform boasts a full arsenal of Snapdragon Elite Gaming features to harness the power of ultra-smooth responsiveness and color-rich HDR graphics. It offers higher core clock speeds of the Qualcomm Kryo 680 Prime CPU up to 3.0 GHz and the 6th generation Qualcomm AI engine with AI performance of up to 32 TOPS. Snapdragon 888+ features AI-enhanced gameplay, streaming, photography, and more.

In addition to Snapdragon 888, Qualcomm also announced the expansion of its 5G RAN platform portfolio, including the Qualcomm 5G DU X100 accelerator card at the event. It is designed to enable operators and infrastructure providers to fully utilize high-performance, low-latency, and energy-efficient 5G, while driving the transition of the cellular ecosystem to virtualized radio access networks.

The company has also launched its new over-the-air (OTA) R&D benchmarks and system simulations show the next chapter of 5G from Qualcomm Technologies. New research and innovations continued to lead in improving the 5G system foundation to expand existing capacity, expand coverage, and reduce latency for operators and mobile devices globally. The benchmarks and system simulations also highlight 5G’s horizontal capabilities to transform industrial, enterprise, automotive, and more IoT industries.

Latest from Qualcomm studies show the growth of 5G devices, applications and deployments in wireless technology, edge cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI).
