The long-awaited movie adaptation of Amazon Prime Video’s “Red, White & Royal Blue” will officially arrive this summer. On April 26, the streamer announced that the film will arrive in August, and then shared several preview photos on June 12. Then, during the first week of July, Prime Video shared three short preview clips of the romance film featuring memorable scenes from the book, leading up to the release of the full trailer on July 6.
The upcoming romantic comedy, based on Casey McQuiston’s novel of the same name, was filmed in London last summer. In the film, Nicholas Galitzine plays Prince Harry, a gay British prince who is often overlooked by his family. Prince Harry meets his rival in Alex, played by Taylor Zakhar Perez. Alex is America’s firstborn, and when he causes a cake incident at Henry’s brother’s wedding, the two have to fake an international friendship, but things go awry when they start to fall in love.
Perez previously appeared as Marco in the Kissing Booth trilogy and on HBO Max’s “Minx.” Meanwhile, Galitzine played Prince Robert in 2021’s “Cinderella” and played Luke Morrow in 2022’s “Purple Hearts.” He will also appear in “Bottoms” this August. “Red, White & Royal Blue” is directed by playwright Matthew Lopez, who is making his feature directorial debut, from a script by Lopez and Ted Malawer. The film is produced by Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.
McQuiston told Deadline in June 2022 when the casting was announced: “It’s been exciting handing this story over to Berlanti/Schechter, Amazon and our fearless lead man Matthew Lopez and seeing them make so many smart, bold and thoughtful decisions to bring it to life.” to the life. This casting is no exception. I can’t wait to see Taylor and Nicholas on screen as Alex and Henry.”
The novel “Red, White and Royal Blue” was released in 2019 and became a huge bestseller. He is also a perennial favorite on BookTok. McQuiston followed “Red, White & Royal Blue” with two more queer novels: 2021’s “One Last Stop” and 2022’s “I Kissed Shara Wheeler,” her first young adult novel. Both books have also been New York Times bestsellers.
