About two months after Major League Baseball moved the 2021 All-Star Game from Atlanta to Coors Field in Colorado After Georgia passed a controversial review of election laws, a federal judge rejected an attempt to return the Midsummer Classic to Truist Park.
According to Tim tucker From The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni in New York denied the request for a court order that would have forced the game to be played in Atlanta on July 13 after the conservative Job Creators Network (JCN) filed a lawsuit alleging it represented local Atlanta businesses affected by MLB’s relocation from the exhibition showdown.
“To say that the legal basis for this lawsuit is weak and unclear is an understatement,” Judge Caproni said Thursday. “The plaintiff alleges that (MLB and the players’ union) were members of a conspiracy to violate the constitutional rights of JCN members … but I still cannot understand how.”
The judge added: “But whether small business owners as a group agree or disagree, are deeply divided or agnostic on that issue, it is difficult to see how the MLB decision had an impact on the equal rights of protection of small business owners as a group.. ”
In early April, the executive director of the MLB Players Association, Tony Clark He suggested The All-Star Game could be relocated because union members were “well aware” of what was happening in Georgia.
For The Associated Press (h / t ESPN), the lawsuit sought “$ 100 million in compensatory damages and $ 1 billion in punitive damages.”
