MANILA, Philippines – The Premier Boxing Champions announced on their website that John Riel Casimero will now fight WBA regular bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux.
Casimero, the WBO champion, was supposed to fight Nonito Donaire in a unification fight, but the WBC champion withdrew from the match citing the former’s disrespectful comments towards his wife Rachel and the problem over drug testing.
Thi led PBC to book Casimero in a fight with Rigondeaux on Aug. 14 and the venue has yet to be announced.
However, Rigondeaux posted on Instagram that he wanted a rematch with Donaire.
In his post, Rigondeaux not only launched a rematch against Donaire, but also criticized Casimero’s antics.
“Hi @nonitodonaire, let’s do this. Just you and me. No memes, no jokes of any kind, ”Rigondeaux wrote in an Instagram post that had a screenshot of Donaire’s post that he was pulling out of the Casimero fight.
Casimero got into trouble with Donaire after he posted disrespectful content towards the latter’s wife, Rachel.
These malicious curse words plus Casimero’s problems with doping tests forced Donaire to call off the fight and prevent the Ormoc City native from collecting any money he might have won in the unification fight.
Rigondeaux (20-1) has a win over Donaire (41-6) when he scored a unanimous decision victory in their 2013 fight for the WBA and WBO super bantamweight belts.
“If you are available, I promise you that you will do whatever it takes on my part to give the fans the fight they want. #Respect, ”wrote Rigondeaux with the emojis of the Cuban and Philippine flags.
