MANILA, Philippines – San Miguel Beer withstood a NorthPort fourth quarter rally, 88-86, in the PBA Philippine Cup at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Arwind Santos hit the game-winning jump shot near the free throw line with 1.2 seconds to go and the Beermen survived after losing a 16-point lead.

CJ Pérez scored 18 points, the highest of the team, which were with eight rebounds and five steals for San Miguel Beer, who won his second consecutive game after losing his first game.
Santos, who was called for a technical foul with 7.3 ticks remaining that led to a game-tying Robert Bolick free throw, added 17 points, five rebounds and three blocks.
The Beermen also spoiled Greg Slaughter’s debut for Batang Pier, who acquired the 7-foot center in a highly successful trade with Barangay Geneva last March.
In his first game since the 2019 Governors’ Cup Finals in January 2020, a revitalized Slaughter achieved highs of 23 points and 17 rebounds in nearly 38 minutes of action.
Slaughter played a key role in NorthPort’s comeback offer in which he beat San Miguel, 21-5, before the basket of Santos’ lead.
But not even the huge boost provided by Slaughter was enough to give NorthPort the win as they fell to 1-2.
