Need some tips for stress-free entertaining during the holiday season? We spoke to Lucy Barrow, Marketing Manager of The Ice Co. for some interesting tips on bagged ice hosting and how to use it to make your life easier when serving drinks at parties.

What are your top three hosting tips for stress-free entertaining?

Make sure you keep drinks cool during entertainment – stocking your freezer with ice packs is a great way to make sure you don’t run out of ice.

Also consider chilling foods on ice, including desserts and fish dishes, for the ultimate in flavor but also show-stopping service.

Store a variety of drinks to suit all tastes and use crushed ice or larger cubes to make cocktails and non-alcoholic cocktails more exciting for guests.

What ice should I store for my Christmas party?

Be the perfect ice host in an instant this Christmas by keeping a variety of ice handy in your freezer, ideal for different purposes.

If you’re worried about having time to make volumes of ice for your Christmas party amidst all the cooking and party prep, it’s helpful to shop in ice bags rather than using ice trays.

I would recommend wearing:

1. A selection of premium ice cubes that melt slowly for sophisticated cocktails. Elegant in shape, they are perfect for adding elegance to Christmas services.

2. Larger ice cubes for short or long portions, for finer and more refreshing festival drinks. They cool your drinks quickly but melt slowly, reducing dilution.

3. A large smaller ice bag perfect for entertaining the biggest numbers – these are for your beers, soft drinks and useful to put in buckets to keep bottles cold.

4. Crushed ice is versatile and adaptable. This can be used in cocktails, soft drinks for designated drivers, or for children’s smoothies.

How can I make sure I am fully stocked?

When hosting a festive event, ice packs are essential in terms of practicality. They are already pre-domed and frozen in large quantities, and there is no need to wash the dishes. You can save a lot of time and effort with ice cubes, which means more time to enjoy the party!

So much so that, in a recent consumer survey, it emerged that 71% of consumers agree on the importance of having ice at home during entertainment.

How should I store my ice?

1. If using an ice bucket and scoop to distribute the ice, make sure they are all thoroughly clean before use.

2. When chilling bottles in an ice bucket, do not be tempted to use ice from inside the bucket. It’s unclear where the bottles were before they reached your home – they could contaminate the ice.

3. Wash your hands before opening your beloved ice pack and use your hands to retrieve the ice for your guests’ drinks.

4. The nature of bagged ice means that it is easy to freeze alongside other party foods in your freezer and saves you the time and effort of freezing at home.
