For many of us, Subway has little place in our hearts. Maybe we grew up on this. Maybe this is our meal on the road. Or maybe that particular subway smell makes our bellies rumble
Regardless of our love (or lack of) for Subway, it’s safe to say that this fast food chain has remained largely unchanged over the decades. But that all changed with the launch of their new Eat Fresh Refresh campaign.
(Brief) history of the metro
Back in 2008, during the financial crisis, Metro thrived because of their $ 5 deal. It was a simple, cheap and relatively healthy option for people in such a difficult time for the economy. They have expanded significantly to become the network with the largest number of divisions in the United States – no small feat.
But since then, the company has struggled to maintain the same pace.
In 2015, founder Fred DeLuca died after she was diagnosed with leukemia in 2013. This was a blow to the company and one of several factors that led to the decline of the brand. Other factors included new competition, as well as struggles for success with urban and student populations.
This failure in success was most likely the driving factor for the rebranding of all the delicious ingredients known.
Eat Fresh Campaign
Some of the new changes in Subway are in the food itself. The company teases these changes on its social media platforms.
In addition, they created a new menu, which, you guessed it, is called “Eat Fresh Refresh”. The menu tries to use fresher and higher quality ingredients. Specifically, the change includes 11 new ingredients, six new sandwiches, and four new and improved replacements.
New Ingredients: Homemade Italian Bread, Hearty Multi-Grain Bread, MVP (Most Valuable Parm) Parmesan Vinaigrette, Crushed Avocado, Fresh Beljoyoso Mozzarella, Hickory Bacon, Oven-Baked Turkey, Steak and Black Forest Ham.
New Sandwiches: Turkey Cali Fresh, Cali Fresh Steak, Rotisserie Chicken, All American Club, Subway Club and Roast Beef. Improved substitutes include steak and cheese, roasted turkey, Black Forest ham, and chicken and bacon ranch.
With all of these changes, Subway has a ton of new features!
New ordering method
As with all the other changes happening in Subway, the ordering has also been improved. You can now place an order through the dedicated Subway app. Or, if you need shipping, you can also order through DoorDash, GrubHub, Postmates, or Uber Eats.
Ordering on the metro has never been so easy and you can rest assured that everything is still made to order – just the way we always liked it.
“This is too much for one representative”
Subway isn’t messing around when it comes to promotions either.
Among the celebrities they’ve hired to help promote their new look, new food, and fresh start is the Golden State Warriors basketball star. Steph Curry, tennis legend Serena Williams, Football defender Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tom Brady and footballer Megan Rapino OL Reign and the US national team.
Subway clearly felt that this new update deserved a whole team of America’s greatest athletes, as evidenced by their clever commercial name: “That’s too much for one representative.”
Is it all too late?
While Subway has revamped its menu, simplified ordering like never before, and garnered the attention of some of the biggest names in the sports world, will that be enough?
It’s hard to say if this will get things off the ground when it comes to Subway’s nationwide success. There are so many competitors these days offering affordable and healthy meals that time will tell.
