Editor’s opinion: As a sports car enthusiast, it’s hard not to salivate about the kind of acceleration the Tesla Model S Plaid is capable of. According to founder Elon Musk, no production vehicle has been able to turn 0 to 60 mph in less than two seconds.
Tesla hosted an event last night at its test track in Fremont, California, delivering the first batch of Tesla Model S Plaid electric vehicles to their respective buyers.
tartan It is the latest version of Tesla’s premium Model S sedan. It features a three-engine design that goes beyond the company’s “ridiculous” version in just about every way.
The four-wheel drive sedan boasts an EPA-estimated 390-mile range with a maximum output of 1,020 horsepower. Consider the instantaneous torque you get from an electric powertrain, and you get speeds from 0 to 60 mph in 1.99 seconds, a quarter mile time of 9.23 seconds, and a top speed of up to 200 mph (with the right wheels and tires, which won will not be available until fall 2021).

On stage, Musk highlighted the Plaid’s new battery pack technology, the carbon-sleeved rotors Tesla designed for the drive motors, and the vehicle’s improved cooling system. The recharging capacity has also been improved, with a 15-minute period in a supercharger station capable of supplying 187 miles of range.
Tesla’s Model S Plaid starts at $ 129,990 and is available to order on the company’s website.
