The best places to visit in southern England

The sunniest part of England has plenty of exciting places for you to visit. From the rugged coastlines of Cornwall to the historic beauty of Oxford, there are all sorts of different days out. Below, we explore the best places to visit in southern England.

If you want to get yourself to the beach, Bournemouth is an excellent choice. With seven miles of sandy beaches to enjoy, there’s always room for you to find that perfect spot to relax by the sea. Bournemouth also gives you quick access to most of the sites in Dorset too, including the Jurassic Coast and Durdle Door. As such, Bournemouth makes for a great base to stay at and explore southern England.

If you’re looking for a city break in the south, Oxford is a great option. The city-centre is dominated by the university, with fairy-tale buildings and grounds dotted around. From Magdalen College to Christchurch, there are plenty of beautiful spots to visit. When the evening comes you can then visit the suburb of Jericho – a lively area complete with quirky independent bars and restaurants.

Brighton is a wonderfully vibrant and colourful seaside city. Naturally, wandering around Brighton pier and the beach will be at the top of everyone’s itinerary, but there are other attractions too. You can take a tour of Brighton’ street art in just 90 minutes, with the murals balancing beautifully against the ornate townhouses. On top of this, Brighton has an eclectic food scene if you’re keen on eating out.

London can be an action-packed city break. With any activity you can wish for, it’s just a case of working out what to fit into your schedule! You can do the classic sightseeing at Westminster or on the London Eye. Or alternatively, you can visit Shoreditch and enjoy the street art before heading out for dinner and a quirky restaurant.

Cornwall makes for a wonderfully remote escape. With rolling hills and lush countryside, it truly feels like you’re escaping the city. And with plenty of seaside towns to visit, there’s always something new to discover each trip.

A trip to any of these southern England destinations can make for an exciting getaway. Just make sure that you purchase your train tickets in advance and relax knowing that you’re all set up for an invigorating break.
