The Chinese city of Dalian closes thousands of students: report

Beijing: tens of thousands of universities students I’m downstairs confinement on their campuses in the northeastern Chinese city of Dalian, which is fighting the biggest blaze in the country’s current outbreak, according to the Dushikuaibao newspaper.

Two Zhuanghe universities in Dalian have imposed curbs since the port city was discovered Covid cases on November 4, the report said, citing the students. Classes are held online, the newspaper says.

China is struggling to contain its fourth outbreak of the most infectious delta variant in the past five months. With more than 1,000 locally transmitted infections spread across 21 provinces, it is already the largest flare-up since the virus first emerged in Wuhan.

Dalian became the country’s latest hotspot, reporting 40 local cases out of 57 new infections added nationwide on Saturday.

City authorities urged people not to leave their homes to reduce transmission and stopped operations in public places deemed non-essential.
