If 2021 was shaping up to be a bleak year for video games, E3 has brought it back to life. The highlights of the year so far include, , other , but the second half of the year seemed somewhat dry. That’s no longer the case, now that E3 is (mostly) over – we’ve got new games from Metroid, Forza, and Marvel to look forward to, among others.
Below is a list of all the major release dates for the year, but keep in mind that delays are always possible. Some games from 2021 have been removed, including Hogwarts legacy other .
Mario is dusting his clubs for another 18 holes. Mario Golf: Super Rush repeats Mario Golf from N64, and is Mario’s third sports excursion on Switch after tennis and the Winter Olympics (with Sonic). Super Rush includes a promising multiplayer mode, as well as a single-player RPG mode starring your Mii.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is still coming out, but it’s something from 2022. Meanwhile, Nintendo is reviving Skyward Sword, released in 2011 for Wii, for Switch. Skyward Sword HD will run at 60 frames per second, enjoy Amiibo support, and use the Joy-Cons to control Link’s sword and shield.
Neo: The world ends with you
Release date: July 27
The World Ends With You was a cult classic on the Nintendo DS and in July, 14 years after its initial release, the game will have a sequel. Neo: The World Ends With You adds another dimension to the game – it’s literally now a 3D action RPG. It will be produced by Tetsuya Nomura, from Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and will be released on both PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
No More Heroes is a series of hack and slash games that began in 2008 on Wii. Since then he has accumulated a considerable cult and has enjoyed strong critical acclaim. After a delay related to COVID-19, No more heroes 3 It will launch on Switch on August 27.
WarioWare games, for those who don’t know, absolutely rule. You wouldn’t know it by watching the game, or even the launch trailer for WarioWare: Get It Together !, but microgame collections are always fun and often addictive. The newest game, which launches on Switch in September, adds multiplayer for the first time.
After years of focusing primarily on Dishonored, developers Arkane Studios are moving towards a new IP in Deathloop. And it looks sick.
Here’s the idea: you’re a killer stuck in a time loop that resets after each day. To get out, you must kill eight “visionaries” that are scattered on an island. The caveat is that you will need to do this within a cycle of time. The second warning is that, while you search for the eight visionaries, a rival assassin keeps busy. hunting you.
Deathloop is coming to PlayStation 5 and PC on September 14, with an Xbox version likely next year (he’s timed console exclusivity for a year).
Metroid Prime 4 was announced four years ago, and we’ve heard virtually nothing about it since. Fans were hoping we could get a glimpse of E3, but instead we got a totally different Metroid game – Metroid Dread. Instead of the Prime series of first-person shooter, Dread takes the series back to its 2D roots.
It’s not Metroid Prime 4, but it’s coming out in less than four months, and it sure will be good. Take the winnings where you can get them.
Originally scheduled for a February release, Far Cry 6 was delayed until October. It will become the largest and most featured Far Cry to date and will take place in the tropical Yara region, loosely based in Cuba. The game will not only be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Series X | S, PC and Google Stadia, it will also hit Amazon’s Moon platform.
Battlefield 2042 is the first new Battlefield game since 2018’s Battlefield V, and it is all about multiplayer. Literally: There is no single player campaign, being the story mode, which takes place in a world destabilized by climate change, only multiplayer. That will suit many fans of the franchise well though, as Battlefield is primarily about online multiplayer combat, and of course there will be a lot of that.
The Avengers’ is Square Enix’s ever-evolving Marvel action game, one that will soon see the addition of Black Panther. Guardians of the Galaxy is a standalone adventure that allows you to play as Star-Lord, and only as Star-Lord. Surprisingly, there is no multiplayer, but that, the developers say, will allow for a more focused and cohesive narrative experience. I’m down.
Age of Empires IV
Release date: October 28.
We don’t know too much about Age of Empires IV. It was announced in 2017, we saw a glimpse of the gameplay in 2019, and got new previews in March and later at E3. They showed the same format that you know and love, but with greatly improved graphics, and they showed the civilizations known in the game: the Chinese, the English, the French, the Mongols, the Abbasid dynasty and the Delhi Sultanate.
The game is scheduled to hit PC on October 28.
Gran Turismo 7 may have been delayed until next year, but thankfully the great Xbox racing franchise hasn’t. Forza Horizon 5 was revealed at E3, with a trailer showing the new digs for the open world racing game in Mexico. If you’ve played a Forza Horizon game, you already know the deal – it looks beautiful and will probably work extremely well.
Forza Horizon 5 will be released not only on Xbox Series X | Yes, but also on Xbox One and PC.
Grand Theft Auto V.
Release date: November 11.
Grand Theft Auto V continues to be a top-selling game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, hitting PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on November 11.
Note: You can play the game now on Game Pass if you have an Xbox One or Series X | S.
Games to be confirmed in 2021
The following titles are scheduled for release this year. We will update this page as the games have an official release date.
The Pokémon Company
Pokemon Red and Blue got a remake on Game Boy Advance (and later Switch), Silver and Gold on DS, and Ruby and Sapphire on 3DS. Pearl and Diamond, originally released on DS in 2007, are next.
Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are coming to Switch in “late 2021.”
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake
Release date: 2021
Remasters are great, but remakes can be truly magical. After Shadow of the Colossus, Resident Evil 2 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake, three fantastic remakes, 2021 brings Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Originally released in 2003 for PlayStation 2, Ubisoft is giving the platformer a full remake of 2021. Hopefully.
The game was originally scheduled for January 2021, but was later delayed until March. It has been delayed again, but Ubsisoft has yet to give it a new date.
Price of Persia: The Sands of Time is scheduled to release on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
Lego Star Wars is back after five years. The last time we saw the franchise was with The Force Awakens 2016. This game seems much more ambitious: The Skywalker Saga Lego-izas all nine Star Wars movies. The game was scheduled for a release date in early 2021, but it was delayed until … we don’t know exactly when.
Halo Infinite was destined to be the big launch along with Xbox Series X | Yes, but after poor fan response to a preview last year, it ended up delayed until fall 2021. The Halo name alone makes it a must-have game for most Xbox owners and developers. 343 Industries are trying something new by making multiplayer free.
West horizon forbidden
Release date: 2021
Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the best PlayStation 4 games, and its sequel will arrive in 2021. Horizon Forbidden West tracks Aloy’s journey to Utah, Nevada and California from the 30th century as she traces the origins of a killer virus. Truly a game for our time.
Horizon Forbidden West will launch on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 this year.
