The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has been suspended after Syed Ashfaq Shah and his group seized the PFF headquarters. The Federation was governed by a Standardization Committee appointed by FIFA. The Committee was headed by Haroon Malik.
FIFA had deemed the takeover illegal and had given Syed Ashfaq Shah and his group an ultimatum to hand over control of the PFF by March 31 or face full suspension.
It is understood that the ultimatum was ignored.
FIFA issued a statement saying that the FIFA council office suspended the PFF with immediate effect due to third party interference.
“This situation was triggered by the recent hostile takeover of the PFF headquarters in Lahore by a group of protesters and an alleged decision by certain individuals to dismiss the FIFA-appointed PFF normalization committee led by Haroon Malik. and to hand over the leadership of the PFF to Syed Ashfaq Hussain Shah,” FIFA said.
However, the suspension is expected to be lifted if the relevant authorities take control of the situation, as FIFA said,
“This suspension will only be lifted once FIFA has received confirmation from the PFF standardization committee that the PFF facilities, accounts, administration and communication channels are back under its full control and it can continue to comply. his mandate without further obstacles”.
