It’s no secret that Tik Tok evolved into a kind of virtual A&R portal, if we can call it that.
Whatever the case, it’s the platform that makes the labels jump at any opportunity to create a hit that could possibly be condensed into a second challenge, dance, or whatever the kids are up to these days. Amplified during the quarantine, we’ve seen the social platform galvanize the tracks and subsequent careers of just about anyone with catchy BPM from Megan Thee Stallion to SPOTTEMGOTTEM.
But not everyone is so grateful for the adaptations of their creations to the Internet age. More recently, Kid Cudi had something to say about a new challenge in which his “Day and night” 2008 track A boy named Cudi album.
“I don’t care what they did to my song on tik tok getting the lyrics out,” Cudi said recently on Twitter. “We live in a strange time. I’m not flattered. “
The challenge in question presents the user using the “Now watch this” line from the track in the first half before switching to a random video of something funny going on.
While some fans were quick to point out that he may not be as serious as Kid Cudi may think, he justified his emotions, comfortably citing the prdie he takes on his art and not necessarily being a fan of reducing it to a meme.
“I don’t think I’m making it ‘deep’ by tweeting how I feel,” he replied. Now if he was ranting, that’s something else. There’s nothing wrong with saying I don’t approve of it, plus if you’re such a fan you know my lyrics are the most important to me. “Cudi added,” I’m passionate about my shit so I don’t know who has a problem with that. “.
