Colorado politicians can rest easy now that old curmudgeons are being arrested and jailed for threatening hell and damnation in the name of Jesus Christ for every sin imaginable, from profanity to disrespecting their elders and, uhm, being the Secretary of State.
In case you missed it, and clearly we did, Colorado State Police have arrested a 52-year-old man for threatening Jena Griswold.
Kirk Wertz faces a felony charge of retaliating against an elected official, though it’s unclear why the man was retaliating against her.
On the morning of June 30, Secretary of State Jena Griswold’s office received a threat from a caller, according to Griswold’s office.
“Hey, I have a message for the secretary and I want you to pass it on: The angel of death is coming for her in the name of Jesus Christ,” said the caller at Griswold’s office.
The arrest is the first for an election-related threat since Colorado lawmakers passed legislation in May 2021 criminalizing retaliation against elected officials.
I don’t want to take any truly dangerous threat lightly, but for anyone raised in a Christian family, this is a fairly common opening from a parent, grandparent, or aunt ordering you to clean your room, your plate, and your mouth with soap.
It is usually preceded by the truly dreaded threat: “I’ll give you something to cry about.”
Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser is taking the threat very seriously because he is also an elected official who is also running for re-election.
Destruction of property, violence against public officials, and threats of violence have no place in our political discourse. Period. We must all firmly oppose and strongly condemn these threats against public servants. https://t.co/xoIbPnBQcU

Nowhere in the story does it say anything about destruction of property or actual violence against Griswold.
Weiser’s answer is also curious, considering this:
Really? I never heard him speak out against the violence when the Capitol and the Capitol complex suffered extensive damage, forcing the building that houses his office to close. Millions of damages, written hate about killing cops on the steps of the Capitol, but YOU stayed silent. hypocrite. #copolitics https://t.co/dF1QUaXBLl
