The social video app TikTok is experiencing some issues, with DownDetector showing an increase in outages as of 1PM PST on Tuesday. Most users report having trouble watching videos, while others are unable to log in or upload content. TikTok did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
As is almost always the case, heartbroken users took to Twitter to lament the interruption with memes.
“All of us on Twitter because tiktok is getting it wrong,” someone tweeted.
“My tiktok is down and I have no idea what to do now,” wrote another user.
One user noted that the TikTok algorithm (which generally has spot-on content recommendations) is also experiencing the outage. The app’s For You page, displaying content it thinks users will appreciate, apparently didn’t live up to its name. “The scariest thing about the TikTok crash is that it gave me a generic FYP,” they wrote.
“I saw Charli (D’Amelio) on my fy page and ran to Twitter to see if tiktok wasn’t working because my algorithm was broken,” another user joked.
“He cursed my wifi thinking that was the reason why tiktok was not working,” read a tweet.
One user was having a hard time dealing with their usual screen time. “Minute 15: TikTok not working and another human made eye contact with me for the first time in 2 years. I don’t know how long I will last,” they tweeted.
Another user dreamed of what the world would be like without the distraction of TikTok. “Where would we be if tiktok was inactive 24/7,” they said, along with a picture of a futuristic metropolis.
As someone succinctly put it, “how am I supposed to miss my afternoon if I can’t scroll through tiktok?”
One word: Twitter. For now.
