Toyota Corolla Cross GR Sport in Thailand this month

After the Taiwanese debut of the Toyota Corolla Cross GR Sport in September, the sportiest crossover will be launched in Thailand shortly before the Thailand International Motor Expo 2021 which starts on December 1, 2021.

For Thailand, the Corolla Cross GR Sport will receive a 98 PS / 142 Nm 2ZR-FXE petrol unit with Atkinson cycle paired with a 72 PS / 163 Nm electric motor for a total system power of 122 PS driving the front wheels through a CVT, second Headlight magazine. Taiwan also gets the 1.8-liter 2ZR-FE naturally aspirated gasoline that produces 140 hp and 172 Nm of torque, which is the engine for the Corolla Cross in Malaysia.

Visually, the Corolla Cross GR Sport differs from its regular version by a different bumper design and a pair of higher-mounted fog lights, with black trim and grille, the latter with a mesh design that is also applied to the lower intake . The lower edges of the front and rear bumpers, as well as the side sills, have a more robust looking metal trim set, while a two-tone paint finish is offered by a black roof.

Inside, GR-branded graphics on the nine-inch infotainment screen’s boot sequence reminds you what you’re sitting on, as well as a GR-branded engine start button and seat headrest. There are mechanical revisions to accompany the visual changes on the normal Corolla Cross, namely the sports suspension (springs and shock absorbers from the GR division) and a frame reinforcement.

Equipment details for the Thai market Corolla Cross GR Sport will be forthcoming, although for reference the Taiwan model will have 18-inch alloys, halogen headlamps, keyless entry and start, Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, seven airbags and a monitor with surround view. The driver’s instrumentation includes a 4.2-inch multi-information display for gasoline and a seven-inch display for the hybrid variant.

In Taiwan, the internal combustion Toyota Corolla Cross GR Sport is priced at New Taiwan Dollars 875,000 (RM131,094), while the hybrid costs buyers slightly more at New Taiwan Dollars 945,000 (RM141,581). Meanwhile in Malaysia, the 2021 Corolla Cross gets two trim levels and an engine variant; at launch, the 1.8G was priced at RM 124,000, while the higher trim 1.8V was labeled RM 134,000, then revised to RM129.266 in June with the SST exemption.
