Starting next year, films from Universal, Focus Features, Illumination and DreamWorks Animation will be available exclusively on Peacock within four months of their theatrical release, Universal Filmed Entertainment Group and Peacock said Tuesday. Peacock and UFEG said that for their new deal, the traditional 18-month pay window will be split into three segments, with titles broadcast exclusively on Peacock during the first and last four-month segment. Other distribution partners will soon announce the rights for the remaining 10 months of that period.
“By displaying content on multiple platforms through the one-time payment window, UFEG titles will be constantly updated throughout the streaming ecosystem, ensuring that no title or platform is oversaturated,” the companies said in the statement. “This approach allows multiple audiences across a variety of streaming services to experience Universal’s list of award-winning and critically acclaimed films.”
Next year’s movies that will finally land on Peacock include anticipated titles like Jurassic World: Dominion, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and Minions: The Rise of Gru.
