Users of Apple’s German iTunes service have taken to Reddit to complain that the store is “fundamentally broken” in a scathing tirade.
Hope to have some insight with this post. The German iTunes Store is fundamentally broken. Many films, including classics such as Jaws or Back to the Future 2 +3, to this day are only available in a dubbed version in German, without an original language version. While the US store gets 4K updates, we can be happy to get HD.
The publication says that television shows are the worst culprits, and that users cannot watch multi-language programs, having to pay twice for dubbed and original versions.
The spiel also says that iTunes offers shows at the wrong price “over and over again,” with the price of seasons of shows simply the cost of the individual shows added together, rather than as the cheapest standard package:
Take Rick and Morty Season 4 (Uncensored) which was finally released this way, just a few months after the US store. It consists of 10 episodes, costing € 2.99 each if purchased separately in HD. . The entire season is currently € 83.72 because each trailer and additional feature is worth € 2.99 … Seasons 1-3 are € 21.99 each …
The complaint also claims that iTunes customer service “is the opposite of helpful” and insists that it has no control over copyrights and prices, etc.
Other users soon chimed in to share their experiences:
I completely agree. Not all movies are on streaming services, so I like to buy my favorites. I used to buy them on DVD and Blu Ray, but decided to stop because I had gotten too many to store and 4K Blu Ray became 3 times more expensive. I tried switching to digital stores and I didn’t like Amazon at all, Google Play didn’t have any original version and I settled on iTunes, which seemed to have more. But over time I became more and more frustrated.
Sometimes only the first movie in a trilogy has original audio and the rest don’t, even though it’s on DVDs. The most random movies don’t have it, it doesn’t matter if it’s recent or old, which is really annoying since I only watch movies in the original language. And with TV shows it’s even worse.
