The journey of a mythical and emotional hero, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and talented young man born to a great destiny beyond his comprehension, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to secure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces erupt into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence, a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential, only those who can conquer its fear will survive.
Denis Villeneuve directed Dune from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth based on the novel of the same name written by Frank Herbert. Mary Parent, Denis Villeneuve, Cale Boyter and Joe Caracciolo, Jr. produced the film. The executive producers were Tanya Lapointe, Joshua Grode, Herbert W. Gains, Jon Spaihts, Thomas Tull, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, and Kim Herbert.
Oscar winner Parasite Director Bong Joon-ho is chairman of the jury this year, while Italian Oscar-winning actor and director Roberto Benigni will receive the festival’s Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement Award.
The director of Venice, Alberto Barbera, will unveil the complete line-up of the 78th edition of the oldest festival in the world at the end of July.
