Vince Vaughn and Ted lasso co-creator Bill Lawrence is joining forces for a drama series titled Bad monkey. Based on the 2013 novel by Carl Hiaasen, the project received an order for 10 episodes of Apple TV +. In addition to his starring role, Vaughn will also serve as an executive producer. Lawrence will write the series and serve as an executive producer.
Here is the official description of Hiassen’s novel:
Andrew Yancy of the Miami police and soon to be from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has a human arm in his freezer. There is a logical explanation for that, but not for how and why it separated from its shadowy owner. Yancy thinks the explanation for the shark boating / lunch accident is full of holes, and if he can prove the murder, the sheriff could rescue him from his grisly performance as a health inspector.
But first – this is Hiaasen country – Yancy must navigate an obstacle course of wildly unpredictable events with an even more wildly unpredictable group of characters, including her ex-lover, a hot-blooded Kansas fugitive; the nervous widow with the frozen arm; two greedily optimistic real estate speculators; the voodoo witch of the Bahamas known as the Dragon Queen, whose suitors are blinded to death by her peculiar charms; Yancy’s new true love, a perverted coroner; and the bad monkey of the same name, who may be one of Carl Hiaasen’s greatest characters.
The project is settling into Warner Bros. Television, where Lawrence’s Doozer Productions has planted its flag. Matt Tarses and Jeff Ingold of Doozer will also serve as executive producers. Meanwhile, Liza Katzer wants to be a co-executive producer.
Vaughn recently completed his role as Simon Kilmurry for the upcoming sitcom. Queenpins. Directed by Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly, Queenpins stars Kristen Bell, Stephen Root, Paul Walter Hauser, Joel McHale, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste. The movie centers on two housewives who create a $ 40 million coupon scam.
