WATCH | The daredevil Frenchman beats the record for being in a hot air balloon

A 28-year-old daredevil Frenchman broke the world altitude record for riding a hot air balloon after reaching 4,016 meters above western France.

Dressed in a white astronaut suit, Remi Ouvrard performed aerobatics for the annual Telethon charity event in France on Wednesday atop a balloon flown by his father.

Ouvrard said the weather conditions were “perfect” for his exploit and he streamed video of himself live on social media using a selfie stick during the first part of the flight.

At 3500 meters, his father told him to calm down due to the rapid thinning of oxygen, but said he did not face any discomfort from the cold at high altitude due to the hot balloon beneath him.

“I was boiling!” he said later.

Ouvrard held the previous record, set in 2019, of standing on a ball at 1217 meters.
