Apple TV + today announced The psychiatrist next door, a new show with megastars Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd. The show will debut on November 12 and if the teaser is any indication that it will be a success.
The show is based on a true story in which Rudd plays a psychiatrist turning his patient’s life upside down, played by Ferrell. But like all good stories, it’s not that simple.
Inspired by true events, “The Shrink Next Door” details the strange relationship between the psychiatrist and the stars that Dr. Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf (played by Rudd) and his patient Martin “Marty” Markowitz (played by Ferrell). Throughout their relationship, the charming Ike slowly inserts himself into Marty’s life, even moving into Marty’s house in the Hamptons and persuading Marty to appoint him president of the family business. The series explores how a seemingly normal doctor-patient dynamic is transformed into an exploitative relationship full of manipulation, power grab and dysfunction at its best. The series also stars Kathryn Hahn as Phyllis, Marty’s younger sister, and Casey Wilson as Bonnie, Dr. Governorate’s wife.
