A new parent will have many questions about their child’s overall health and well-being. Among other things, they will try to make sure the baby is safe and comfortable after being discharged from the hospital.
While not many people realize this, getting a good quality baby wipe is of the utmost importance. Dr. Himanshu Gandhi, CEO and Co-Founder of Mother Sparsh says indianexpress.com that parents will need to make sure to be particular about what suits the baby’s skin and make a decision accordingly.
“Going for the wrong wipes would lead to skin related problems like redness, rash, itching, etc. We usually go to a pharmacy or supermarket and choose the most attractive or cheapest option available. But the next time you buy one, be sure to check the ingredients in the wipes you choose, ”he says.
What should parents remember?
“That the most sensitive places in a young child are also the most disorderly, where aggressive additives can cause skin-related problems. Therefore, the main ingredients should always be mild and non-irritating. You should always be careful around wipes with high chemical formulations. ‘The more natural the better’ should be the main factor when selecting a wipe for a young child, ”says Dr. Gandhi.
Keep at least
* Check added levels of dermatologically tested cleansers and moisturizers, along with water. The more, the better the formulas to follow when it comes to the water level.
* There can be no substitute for water when cleaning any type of surface.
* Also, many wipes tend to be sticky after use, while those with a high water content clean exceptionally well with a watery feel.
“The other thing to keep in mind is the fabric used. Unfortunately, we ignore the fact that most baby wipes have polyester fabric, which is definitely not good news for your little one’s skin. You should try to purchase wipes made from plant-based medical grade fabric. The non-woven ones are usually made up of many synthetic materials, which are not good for the baby’s skin or for the environment ”, adds the doctor.
The fabric should be thick enough for a comfortable one-time cleaning. Repeatedly rubbing a washcloth may not be the best thing to do. And also, skip the scented wipes, as artificial fragrances suggest one thing: harmful chemicals, Dr. Gandhi concludes.
