Australia is aiming for some of the highest vaccination rates in the world. But as cases continue to grow globally, should we worry?
NSW has passed the full vaccination rate by 90%. It’s one of the highest rates in the world, and Victoria isn’t far behind.
But in both states, dozens of COVID-19 cases are still being recorded. New daily case numbers have not yet dropped below 1000 in Victoria, while cases in NSW have increased between 100 and 300 in the past two weeks.
Vaccine effectiveness is measured by how well it prevents a person from developing a serious disease, while a secondary benefit is the reduced chance of contracting or passing on the disease. But with the reopening of international borders, are cases decreasing fast enough?
