With the NBA set to announce its 75 greatest players of all time, the WNBA will commemorate its 25th season in similar fashion. The WNBA announced “The W25” and the first launch of the “Vote for the GOAT” program. The show will allow fans to vote for their best WNBA player of all time using the hashtag #WNBAGoatVote on Twitter, online at WNBA.com, or on the WNBA app.
“We are excited to recognize and honor the biggest names in women’s professional basketball as part of our ongoing celebration of the 25th season of the WNBA,” said WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert. “Throughout the 2021 season, we celebrate a quarter century of the impact the WNBA has had on sports and society, and on generations of young and diverse athletes. As we prepare for the first Commissioner’s Cup Championship Game and the resumption of our regular season schedule in mid-August, we are pleased to announce ‘The W25’ platform and ‘Vote for the GOAT’ program. ”
The “W25” platform will consist of the selection and honoring of the 25 most important and influential players in the WNBA since its inception in 1997. The nomination will consider on-court performance, skill, leadership, sportsmanship and community service. .
A select panel comprised of members of the media and women’s basketball pioneers and advocates will cast the votes that will determine “The W25,” which will be unveiled on Sunday, September 5, during ABC’s broadcast of the Las Vegas Aces game on Chicago Sky. (3 p.m. ET).
