Fans and media members get a little too comfortable during the pre-draft process with simply throwing rumors and theories against the wall and seeing what sticks.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter deserves a nod of respect for shutting down a wild theory someone floated today, as the pre-draft chatter officially went too far and became too ridiculous to let slide.

ESPN’s Mike Greenberg pointed out on Get Up today that according to ESPN BET, a recent shift in odds indicated that the Los Angeles Chargers could trade quarterback Justin Herbert in order to use their No. 5 pick on Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy and reunite him with head coach Jim Harbaugh, to which Schefter replied “You’d be absorbing the largest cap charge in NFL history to trade one of the elite young quarterback talents. It doesn’t make sense for as much as you would get back.”

We have heard a lot of wild theories leading up to this draft, but this one is too far.

We all have too much time on our hands to sit with all this information and cook up theories like this.

As fun as it would be to reunite McCarthy with Harbaugh, Herbert is one of the league’s best young quarterbacks and any team willing to trade him would be out of their minds.

Maybe it’s time for everyone to just enjoy the draft.
