There was some speculation surrounding the Los Angeles Chargers heading into the 2024 NFL Draft.

Fans were unsure what the team was going to do with the No. 5 overall pick.

With a glaring need at wide receiver, the team could have gone in that direction, which would have been satisfactory for the fanbase.

However, there was another conversation happening about the need for this team to protect their prime investment, Justin Herbert.

The team decided to go with the latter, selecting Joe Alt, an offensive tackle from Notre Dame.

Alt was highly touted coming into the draft, but analysts were unsure if the Chargers would take him or JC Latham, another top offensive lineman.

While it might have been a tough decision, the team ultimately went with Alt.

After seeing what the Chargers decided to do, Bill Belichick gave rave reviews on Alt in a conversation on the Pat McAfee Show.

“He’s played at a high level and he’s ready to go,” Belichick said.

Alt was a superstar at Notre Dame, so being a top draft pick wasn’t a massive surprise to many NFL fans.

With his draft selection in mind, it will be interesting to see what the Chargers will look like in 2024.

They’ve made a lot of roster changes over the past few months, including losing two of their top receivers: Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.

If the Chargers make a concerted effort to attack the position in the later rounds of the draft, they could find the right pieces to help Herbert succeed.
