The San Francisco 49ers made one of the most surprising picks of the 2024 NFL Draft.

This year’s draft has already been filled with chaos and interesting selections, but the 49ers taking Ricky Pearsall was a head-scratcher to many fans.

The 49ers already have Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel on the roster, which makes up one of the best wide receiver duos in the league.

However, even though this duo of solid receivers exists, it won’t last forever.

There have been several reports and rumors throughout the offseason that either Samuel or Aiyuk could be trade candidates moving forward.

Aiyuk is awaiting a contract extension, and now that the team drafted Pearsall in the first round, it could tip the team’s hand about the direction they are considering going.

However, as John Lynch told reporters via Alex Tran on Twitter, Aiyuk texted him to congratulate him on Pearsall’s selection.

“Fire pick, can’t lie,” Aiyuk reportedly texted Lynch.

With this in mind, the attitudes could have shifted within the organization, especially for Aiyuk and Samuel.

They could see the addition of Pearsall as another solid option in this offense, a complementary player alongside them.

If he takes some pressure off Aiyuk and Samuel, this could be a beneficial selection for all parties involved.

Of course, this assumes that the team keeps all three of these receivers together, at least for the 2024 season.

There are a lot of unknowns surrounding this situation at the moment, and while fans and analysts try to make their best guesses, nothing is set in stone until a decision is finalized.
