The Spaniards, who have been arrested, stole his suitcases and demanded £1,725 to return them.

Police said squatters had converted two rooms of the house, in the south-west of Ibiza, into a cannabis farm.

Heavily armed officers had to force their way into the property after obtaining a court order to arrest the men so the British could retake their villa.

Police revealed images of the two suspects being taken away last week after their arrest.

The two men are Spanish with criminal records for violent crimes and drug trafficking.

They have been accused of various crimes, including robbery, wounding and threats.

Police sources said the victims had been injured and needed medical treatment.

The couple’s home in San Jose is near Maison Bang Bang, the luxurious mansion of Gary Goldsmith, Kate Middleton’s uncle.

The Civil Guard stated: “Last week the owners of a property in San José were surprised inside the house by two squatters when they arrived there after traveling to the area from abroad.

“The suspects allegedly attacked them with bats and chains, in addition to threatening them with what appeared to be a shotgun.

“After threatening them, they took their suitcases and later demanded payment of 2,000 euros to return them.”

They added: “Officers requested a warrant to enter the property and arrested the two men and recovered the suitcases, as well as other items possibly stolen in other robberies.

“They also discovered that two of the rooms within the property were being used to grow cannabis.

“Both men have a long criminal history for violent crimes and drug trafficking.”

The suspects are believed to have already appeared in court.

It was unclear today whether they had been released on bail pending an ongoing criminal investigation or were in custody.

It comes a year after a Crown Prosecution Service lawyer and his wife found squatters in their holiday home in Ibiza.

Sophie Robinson, whose husband Marc is head of the CPS extradition unit, arrived for an Easter holiday with her two children and found other family and strangers inside.

Police told the 49-year-old yoga teacher she had no right to enter the home.

She was forced to hire a local law firm to begin the process while she and her daughters returned home.

Fortunately, his lawyer managed to speed up the court process and obtained an eviction order in five weeks.

Sophie found drug paraphernalia strewn on the floor and personal belongings missing when she managed to return inside the couple’s villa in Cap Negret, near San Antonio.
