The Minnesota Vikings have had an interesting offseason.

After losing Kirk Cousins to the Atlanta Falcons, they were forced to go back to the drawing board, especially at the quarterback position.

They did sign Sam Darnold shortly after losing Cousins, but he doesn’t appear to be their final target.

Many believe they are trying to take a quarterback in the first round of this year’s draft, especially after they acquired a second first-round pick from the Houston Texans.

If they want, the Vikings could try and package their two first-rounders to try and move up to select their quarterback of the future.

J.J. McCarthy has been connected to the Vikings over the past several weeks, but Colin Cowherd recently pointed to a different prospect that could be a good option for this team.

“We’re getting the best quarterback for our offense,” Cowherd said, indicating that the Vikings could trade up to get Drake Maye.

Maye was coached by Josh McCown in high school, who is also the Vikings’ newest quarterback coach.

Cowherd pointed to several things about the Vikings’ offense and coaching staff that appear to point to a future pairing with Maye.

This team would look a lot different with Maye at the helm than it did with Cousins as the signal-caller, but that doesn’t mean this would be a bad move for the Vikings.

In fact, Cowherd believes that this could be the best possible fit for Maye, especially so early on in his career.

Connecting with a familiar coach can’t hurt, especially someone like McCown, who has already played at the highest level.
