The New York Jets selected BYU quarterback Zach Wilson with the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

By the 2023 season, the Jets had realized they made a mistake drafting Wilson and signed longtime Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Instead of letting Wilson go, the team decided to keep him and have him learn and develop under Rodgers.

Disaster struck four plays into the ‘23 season when Rodgers went down for the season with an Achilles injury.

That thrust Wilson back into the starting lineup where he went 4-7, passed for 2,271 yards, eight touchdowns and seven picks.

On Monday, New York parted with Wilson by trading him to the Denver Broncos for a sixth-round pick.

Fox Sports Radio personality Colin Cowherd reacted to the news by saying the Jets front office is guilty of hubris.

“Teams get into their ego,” explained Cowherd, “Men, as a general rule, do this. They don’t want to be wrong so they double down on it, trying to prove they’re right.”

Cowherd remarked that San Francisco, and it’s handling of their former first-round pick Trey Lance, is a good example of what the Jets should have done with Wilson.

The radio host said that the Niners quickly saw that they had mistakenly selected Lance and traded him to Dallas for a fourth-round pick.

The Jets, according to Cowherd, tried to prove to the sports world that they were correct in picking Wilson and kept him too long.

That proved to be their detriment.

“This is a great example and a life message,” said Cowherd. “Don’t double down on wrong to prove you’re right.”
