Kung Fu Panda 4 has helped DreamWorks break an enormous box office record. The new movie features the return of Jack Black as the voice of Po, the anthropomorphic panda who has become a kung fu master over the course of the previous movies in the animated franchise, which kicked off in 2008. When it opened in March, it debuted with a 3-day total of $57.9 million at the domestic box office, marking the second-best opening of the franchise behind the original movie’s $60.2 million debut gross.


Per Deadlinethe Kung Fu Panda 4 release has passed the $500 million milestone at the global box office with a running total of $503.4 million. This gargantuan gross has also pushed the four-movie franchise as a whole past the $2 billion mark worldwide, becoming the seventh highest-grossing animated franchise in history. This in turn has caused DreamWorks Animation to break an even bigger record by becoming the owner of the most animated franchises that have crossed the $2 billion milestone between Kung Fu Panda, Shrekand Madagascar.
