EU sanctions on Iran are “regrettable and illegal”, says senior diplomat

The European Union sanction announced after Iran’s missile and drone attack on Israel is “unfortunate and illegal” because Tehran was acting in self-defense, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said.

Amirabdollahian criticized the EU for tightening sanctions on Iran in retaliation for recent airstrikes against the Zionist regime.

“It is regrettable that the European Union is rushing to decide on new illegal restrictions against Iran only because Iran has exercised its right to defend itself against the brazen aggression of the Israeli regime,” the minister wrote in X on Tuesday.

“The EU should not follow Washington’s advice to appease the criminal Israeli regime.”

Amirabdollahian also criticized the EU’s reaction to the regime’s military attack on the defeated Gaza Strip.

“As the Israeli regime continues to commit genocide against the Palestinians through a combination of war crimes, rocket attacks and famine, the EU’s response is little more than empty words,” he added.

The Foreign Minister advised the bloc to impose sanctions on the Israeli regime.

The EU decision came after Tehran attacked the occupied territories with a barrage of drones and missiles in retaliation for Israel’s killing of several Iranian military advisers in Syria.
