Iran says Argentine judges’ lawsuit against Iranian citizens is illegal, based on fabrications

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani strongly condemned an “illegal lawsuit” by some Argentine judges regarding Iranian citizens in the Amia bombing case, saying their lawsuit is based on lies and fabrications.

The judges in the case have requested the extradition of the Iranian Interior Minister for what they describe as an insult against the victims of the Amia attack. 85 people were killed and hundreds more injured in the bombing of the Jewish center in July 1994.

The Iranian Foreign Office highlighted the previous scandal related to demands made to the British judicial system for the extradition of an Iranian official that were later rejected due to insufficient evidence to support such a demand.

Kanaani then emphasized that the accusations leveled against Iran in the Amia case have no credibility, adding that such demands imposed on judicial officials of other countries are unjustified and legally unfounded.

The Foreign Minister’s spokesperson said that the Islamic Republic of Iran supports any measures to administer justice in the case and pursue those who, by destroying evidence, derailed it and helped the culprits escape justice.

Kanaani recommended that Argentine officials avoid making unfounded accusations against nationals of other countries and avoid being influenced by the claims of enemies of Tehran-Buenos Aires relations.
