Iranian newspaper: Taliban denounces ethnic cleansing of Shiites, Iran remains silent

Jomhouri-e Eslami, in its Monday edition, had harsh words for Iranian media and officials for burying the news that seven worshipers were murdered at a Shiite mosque in Afghanistan’s Herat province last week.

He wrote: “Unfortunately, this method has become common for innocent people in Afghanistan to be martyred in the new period of the terrorist Taliban Takfiri government, and based on an unwritten contract, it seems that Iranian officials are supposed to remain silent in the face to the massacre of Muslims in Afghanistan.”

Following the pattern of deadly explosions and bombings in Afghanistan, Johmouri-e Eslami wrote that members of the Hazara community in Shia-populated areas, mainly in Herat province, are victims of incidents almost weekly.

The newspaper’s argument: “It is completely obvious that the Taliban are trying to carry out ethnic cleansing, religious cleansing and uprooting of their opponents and are implementing the decision with firm determination.”

He also refuted the Taliban’s claims that Daesh is behind the terrorist attacks, saying that the Taliban blames Daesh so as not to further tarnish its international image.
