After 24 seasons under head coach Bill Belichick and six Super Bowl titles won, the New England Patriots decided it was time to head in another direction during this NFL offseason, with the team choosing to part ways with the legendary head coach and basically start from scratch.

Along with giving Belichick his walking papers after more than two decades, the team recently traded quarterback Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars, which leaves a void at the quarterback position moving forward.

Although the team signed veteran journeyman Jacoby Brissett to be the starter to begin the 2024 campaign presumably, New England seems intent on drafting a quarterback tonight when the team is officially on the clock at No. 3 overall.

Joy Taylor of FOX Sports argues that the Patriots will be the team under the most pressure to get it right in the draft on Thursday night, via “Speak” on FS1.

With the Patriots basically being irrelevant ever since future Hall of Famer Tom Brady left the team in NFL free agency for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Taylor might be right that the team needs a successful draft, and that starts with their first pick, which will be crucial to the team’s success moving forward.

Unfortunately for New England, the Washington Commanders control their fate at No. 2, as they are also expected to take a quarterback along with the Chicago Bears, who have the top pick in the draft.

The consensus seems to be that the Patriots will end up with either Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye, who are both potential franchise quarterbacks and solid options to build around.
