A simple mistake in Stardew Valley left one player heartbroken and spouse-less in-game, but the solution to their mistake is a simple fix. Stardew Valley has a lot of different play styles, but one of the main factors of the game is deciding who to marry. There are a lot of eligible marriage candidates in Stardew Valley with vastly different personalities, and who someone chooses can change their game and what they experience. Some players try to marry and divorce as many as possible, while others enjoy the one-spouse lifestyle.

Reddit user UncleRuso shared that they had turned on the game for the first time in a while and Emily, the chosen spouse for their playthrough, had left without a trace. The children were still in the house, but all signs of Emily were gone.

Apparently, the player made the mistake of filing for divorce in Lewis’ house instead of redeeming the prizes they were trying to get. This mistake is common, with many comments lamenting that this has happened to them before as well, and some offered the simple solution of just restarting the day to reverse the damage done.

Accidentally Divorcing A Spouse In Stardew Valley Is Too Easy To Do

A Heartbreaking Mistake

Unfortunately, because UncleRuso had already gone to sleep, thus saving the game, the divorce from Emily was settled and there was nothing they could do to save it. Emily is considered one of the best NPCS in Stardew Valley, which is another reason this mistake was so painful. Some Reddit users offered suggestions about duplicating the save file and changing the name of the current save to reverse the error, but UncleRuso had accepted their fate. They decided that the next best option for their playthrough was to try and win her back by erasing her memories of the divorce and going through the process of romancing her again.

Though the game is relatively low stakes, a mistake like this could be devastating for some returning Stardew Valley players who might not know the new tricks and features in the updates. The File For Divorce option is so easy to click, but it does have a few fail safes in place in order to stop it from happening. The cost alone is 50,000g and there is an option to undo it before the end of the day, but if it happened without UncleRuso realizing that was the option they chose, reversing the decision wouldn’t have been a thought that crossed their mind.

Contrary to the devastation some might feel about an accidental divorce, other players love causing as much drama in Stardew Valley as they can. There are many different ways to create chaosespecially when it comes to marriage candidates and jealousy. Though it doesn’t seem that was UncleRuso’s intention, maybe their accidental divorce wasn’t as much of a mistake as they made it seem. Maybe they could pivot and spice up their Stardew Valley playthrough like many other players before them.
