Orpheus Pledger: Australian police begin search for Home and Away star accused of assault | World News

Police in Australia have launched a search for former soap star Orpheus Pledger after he failed to appear in court to face assault charges.

Pledger, 30, was due to appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday accused of assaulting a woman, Sky News. Australia saying.

The actor had been granted bail on Tuesday for a court-ordered hospital evaluation and had been ordered to return to court the following day, but did not appear.

On Wednesday, Victoria Police issued an arrest warrant for him and asked the public to help find him.

The force said in a statement that he was wanted for a “matter relating to an assault” and hoped “someone could provide information regarding his current whereabouts.”

Described as “approximately 170cm (5ft 6in) tall, with brown hair and a tan complexion”, police said he was known to frequent the northern Melbourne suburb of Northcote and surrounding areas.

Pledger’s manager Craig McMahon told the Sydney Morning Herald he had not been in contact with his client this week but was shocked by the assault allegations.

McMahon told the newspaper that his client had long suffered from mental health issues.

Pledger starred in Neighbors, another Australian soap opera, in 2011 before joining the cast of Home and Away in 2016, where he played Mason Morgan for three years.

Early in his career, he appeared in other television shows, Silversun and CrashBurn.
