Patriots Legend Reveals How Josh Allen Swiftly Adapted to Counter Bill Belichick’s Masterplan to Stop Him Early in His Career

The mighty Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills is a force to be reckoned with, so much so that even the legendary Bill Belichick had trouble taming his horns. In a recent exciting new revelation, a former cornerback for the New England Patriots reveals their failed strategies in trying to box Allen.

Josh Allen, the quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, is one of the best players in the NFL currently. Though the resume of Patrick Mahomes usually outshines his name, he is widely considered to be a generational talent in the sport. Against Belichick’s Patriots, Allen holds an overall record of 6-5 and, according to Devin McCourty, the Patriots would often succumb to his talent.

On the 5th May episode of the ‘Pats Interference’ podcast, the hosts invited the former Patriots’ cornerback Devin McCourty. He was heard talking about the potential breakout players in 2024 and later turned his attention to his Patriot days and how Josh Allen’s tactics as a QB made even Belichick choose an alternative game plan.

McCourty remarked, “We used to play him early in his career, and Bill would say to us, ‘Don’t guard the check down.’ And we would watch clips where he would buy time, he just wouldn’t throw it to the (running) back who would be wide open in the flat. And then he started being like, “Alright, if you’re going to play zone and stay back and try to keep me in a pocket, I’m just going to do this (motions towards a short pass). I just think that’s a big part of playing quarterback.

Thus, McCourty’s story about Belichick’s dilemma and Allen’s adaptation was a direct insinuation toward Drake Maye, who was the Patriots’ pick in this year’s edition of the NFL Draft. Moreover, Devin McCourty had a solid piece of advice for the former QB for North Carolina as he gets ready to embark on the NFL as the next big quarterback.

Devin McCourt’s words of wisdom for Drake Maye

It was all smiles for the young Maye who got drafted at number 3 overall by the Patriots at the Draft. While several touted him to be a later pick, he was picked right after Jayden Daniels got drafted by the Washington Commanders. Now, he will be stepping into the NFL’s most successful franchise with 6 Super Bowls to their name and as such, the former Pats’ star McCourty had great advice to offer the QB.

McCourt was asked about his thoughts on Maye and he said, “I think the thing for him that’s going to be unique, is they they have some time and they have to show some patience. I think to really make sure they put him out there when he’s ready to go and when they feel like this team is ready to go out there and compete and give him the best chance to be a good player, I think they’re in a good situation.

Thus, while McCourty believes Jerod Mayo’s team needs to be patient with Maye, it seems like the young boy from North Carolina can’t wait to step onto the gridiron, donning the number 1 jersey that he chose for himself in delight.
