Putin’s “torturer” died after a bomb destroyed his car in an apparent revenge attack.
Yevhen Ananyevsky was branded a “traitor” by Ukraine after organizing the torture chamber for prisoners of war.
Images from the scene show his Ford Kuga completely destroyed in the explosion with a dented side door.
Ananyevsky’s car was attacked in Berdiansk, Zaporozhye region, at around 9.40am on Sunday.
Putin’s crony died instantly from the injuries he suffered, Ukrainian media reported.
According to a Russian investigation, an unknown man had placed an improvised explosive device under the vehicle.
The “components and fragments” of the bomb have been seized for forensic examination.
Ukrainian military intelligence GRU took responsibility for the murder of the correctional colony officer.
In a statement they said: “As a result of an explosion, Yevhen Ananyevsky, who was involved in the torture of Ukrainian prisoners, was eliminated.
“The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reminds that for every war crime there will be fair retribution.”
Ananyevsky was reportedly in charge of a notorious penal colony number 77 in Berdiansk, where Ukrainian prisoners of war were said to have been tortured.
He was put in charge of the prison in March 2022 after Russia took over the region and was accused of systematically using torture against inmates to extort money.
Viktoria Halitsyna, exiled head of the Military Administration of the city of Berdiansk, said: “A collaborator was detonated. An explosive device was placed under his car.
“The traitor died instantly from his injuries.”
The latest car bombing occurred when Russia blew up a power plant within the Ukrainian-controlled part of the Donetsk region.
In an attempt to deprive Ukraine of its energy supply, Russia launched four Smerch MLRS cluster missiles and one high-explosive missile at the Slovyanskaya power plant.
White smoke was seen billowing from the plant after the explosion and the debris and damage was captured on camera.
Ukraine has long attacked Russian collaborators who sympathize with warmongers in the occupied territories of Ukraine.
In the first six months of combat action in the Russian-occupied territories, there have been 25 assassination attempts on pro-Putin officials.
RTVI reported that 12 of those attempts resulted in death and seven people were injured.
Last November, two of Putin’s security officials were blown up in a car bomb in the Russian-held eastern city of Luhansk.
Both Deputy Interior Minister Lieutenant Colonel Oleg Shumilov and Head of Criminal Investigations Lieutenant Colonel Vladimir Pakholtenko were taken to hospital with serious shrapnel wounds after the explosion.
More recently, Putin’s crony, who was the director of an educational center that spread Russian propaganda to children, was killed by a car bomb.
In September 2023, a Russian general was seriously injured after the Ukrainian secret service handed him a suspected “explosive phone.”
Yuri Afanasevskii, 64, his wife and son were reportedly injured in the explosion at their home in Luhansk.
