Rasmus Hojlund Reveals One Romelu Lukaku Trait That Cristiano Ronaldo Lacks

Intelligence, goals, tekkers, and whatnot—Cristiano Ronaldo embodies the epitome of soccer excellence. There is no need to describe the Portuguese superstar as even after way beyond his prime, he is doing wonders on the pitch. However, even the greatest of all tend to have an Achilles’ heel with a player like Ronaldo being no exception. Manchester United star Rasmus Hojlund sheds light on one quality that Romelu Lukaku possesses but CR7 lacks.

During a Fan Q&A segment with Sky Sports Premier League, the Danish striker was asked a question about who he modeled his game on. Interestingly, Hojlund took not one but three big names to answer the question. “There were a lot of players I used to look at. (Robert) Lewandowski a lot, Cristiano of course, he’s my idol, so I watch him a lot, and Romelu Lukaku,” he said.

The 21-year-old revealed that during his time in Copenhagen, the Danish club’s coaches used to analyze his game accordingly to see how to improve any particular trait that he was lacking but other players were good at. “I try to take from every part of their game. Rom is very good at protecting the ball. Whereas Lewandowski is very good at his movement in the box.” While Hojlund didn’t exactly reveal what he takes from Ronaldo’s game, he concluded, “I just try to (get a great mix).”

This unique revelation from the Red Devils star subtly suggests that his idol, Ronaldo, is not good at protecting the ball, a trait, that the young striker learns from Lukaku instead. Hojlund also studies Lewandowski, with the Barcelona striker good in his box-to-box movement. Ironically, even though he idolizes Ronaldo, the United striker shockingly snubbed the Al Nassr star while naming his dream Man Utd legend strike partner.

Cristiano Ronaldo is not Rasmus Hojlund’s dream iconic striker partner at Manchester United

In a similar interview, Rasmus Hojlund was asked to pick his dream Manchester United strike partner. Without giving any second thought, the 21-year-old chose Wayne Rooney ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo. “I would take Wayne to be fair because he’s like a bulldog. He likes to work and would do a massive job for me,” said the former Atalanta man.

While heaping praise over Rooney’s selfish nature to score helps, Hojlund claimed that it would only help him form a better partnership upfront. “He could drop deep and I could maybe make the deeper runs as well. I’ve not played with him but I hope we would score many,” concluded the United no. 11.

Certainly, this must have brought discontent to Ronaldo’s face. But one must not forget that he still idolizes Ronaldo and takes a lot from the 5x Ballon d’Or winner to improve his own game.
