“RIP Mavs”: Fans Blast Charles Barkley After Luka Doncic and Co. Falls Victim to the “Curse”

It’s that time of the playoffs when we ask why would you do this Chuck! He threw the ‘Chuck Guarantee.’ In a very critical Game 2 between the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers no less. For the uninitiated, if Charles Barkley picks a team, an interesting pattern ensues. That is, in no uncertain terms, the team with the Chuck Guarantee loses. So after he made his pick and got showered with a hundred squeaky ducklings, fans of one team were left shattered before tip-off.

The ill-fated team that has the Chuck guarantee – drum roll – Dallas Mavericks. That means Clippers fans are celebrating and Mavs fans are mad at Chuck.

Does Chuck like the Mavs?

All season, Charles Barkley was rooting for the Clippers in every scenario. However, he made a stark change just before the playoffs. He picked the Dallas Mavericks to win the series solely because of Luka Doncic. He even confirmed to the Inside Guys he is off the Clippers bandwagon because of Luka. Though he was mad when the Mavs lost Game 1 109-97, Barkley is a different kind of confident before Game 2.

During Inside the NBA‘s tipoff show, he slapped the table and firmly stated, “The Dallas Mavericks are going to win tonight.” And he got rained with ducks.

As much as Barkley wishes otherwise, the Chuck Guarantee is more a curse than honor. He genuinely wants the Mavs to win but he should’ve looked back at the history of the Chuck Guarantee before throwing it. The 2021-22 season was the unicorn year when the curse of the Chuck Guarantee went 10/25, taking down the Bucks, Nets, and Lakers with it. He did have seven straight correct guarantees.

This season the Boston Celtics might be carrying the ‘curse.’ He pressed the Chuck Guarantee button when he said they’d win the championship. And they were eliminated from the in-season tournament right away. The Mavs might share their fate.

Fans pray that their faves don’t have the Chuck Guarantee. That means the Mavs fans are grieving prematurely.

Chuck is guaranteed to be very hurt

Fans have given up. Even if the news of the Chuck Guarantee has not reached the Mavs locker room, fans aren’t even bothered to go through the game. Before Game 2 even began, messages like, “RIP Mavs y’all just got jinxed,” cropped up.

Sarcasm abound everywhere in comments like, “Mavs are going to get swept now, thanks Chuck.” Some might be even threatening Barkley. If the curse strikes, he might as well go into hiding.

By the second quarter, the Mavericks had a narrow lead. But Kawhi Leonard is healthy and back. He could be the one empowered to carry out the curse.

Even the toy ducks are in uproar over Barkley’s pick as someone noted, “When Chuck says Mavs the ducks giggle to disapprove.” It’s actually Kenny and Shaq who can’t resist making the ducks squeak. Perhaps the only thing that can counter the Curse of the Chuck Guarantee is some Luka Magic.

The only ones celebrating is anyone who was not rooting for the Mavs tonight. Maybe the curse even transferred from the Celtics to the Mavs. Clippers fans at least are popping the champagne early.

If there’s a betting man out there, bet against the Chuck Guarantee. But also keep in mind, Sir Charles has his moments.
